Mineralizaciones pseudomórficas de El Port de Benifallim (Alicante)

Abstract

Certain pseudomorphic mineralizations from the Cenomanian-Turonian of the Jaén formation in the North of the province of Alicante are studied. These mineralizations have been formed in a deep marine sedimentation medium, under anaerobic conditions and in the presence of organic matter. The pseudomorphosis has been produced by alteration of pre-existing minerals which, in the cases studied, correspond to pyrite or brandsite, replaced by ferrous minerals. The transformation has been chemical, maintaining original cubic or orthorhombic crystallization.
